Ah, questo è interessante. Anche a Rolling Stone "I'll Remember" sembrava una canzone beatlesiana, ma Davies ha smentito attribuendole influenza buddyholliana.
In compenso gli piaceva Love Me Do.



Questa non la sapevo, lo giuro  ::)
A me la somiglianza sembra davvero palese sia per quanto riguarda lo schitarrare, tipico dei primi dischi dei Beatles, sia per l'armonizzazione della seconda voce, sia per il middle-eight.
Poi anche i Beatles avran debiti con Buddy Holly...ma il paragone che mi vien immediato è quello coi Beatles.


Ricorda certamente più i secondi che Buddy, il quale del resto non usava quasi mai armonie vocali, non nella sua produzione matura (eccezione: Words Of Love, e la primitiva produzione country), e di certo non quelle chitarre.

Francamente I'll Remember mi ricorda più la surf music, o tutt'alpiù i primi Who, quelli più melodici. C'è del Merseybeat, certo, ma non mi ricorda niente dei Beatles in particolare. Anche perché loro, armonicamente, erano ben più complessi. Al massimo, come detto, gli Who, specie nelle chitarre così acute.

però davvero, così si rischia di ricondurre ai Fab praticamente ogni cosa incisa in Uk dal 63 in poi.

E' quello che sto cercando di fargli capire, ma probabilmente è quello che vogliono. Facciamo così: tutte le band inglesi che hanno debuttato dopo il 1963 sono cover band dei Beatles. Ora però parliamo dei Kinks, dai...

Ci provo, ma mi pare che dagli anni '60 non ci si muove.  >:(
Non mi pare di aver visto troppo citata 'Days', e mi pare grave. Tra l'altro ottimamente reinterpretata da Costello una decina di anni fa.

Mi limitavo a stabilire se somigliasse più a Holly o ai Beatles, senza addentrarmi in discorsi più generali.

Di certo non mi ricorda il surf. Gli Who ci potrebbero stare.

Osservazioni di altri:

per quel che mi concerne i Kinks finiscono con i sessanta, quel che ho sentito degli anni '70 e '80 non mi piace.

Muswell Hillbillies è di una piattezza indicibile. Sleepwalker o come si intitola tenta di coprire la mancanza di vera ispirazione e di brani memorabili con un funambolico eclettismo.

Già con Arthur per me cominciavano ad essere vagamente in declino, rispetto alla qualità media dal '66 in poi, il chè mi pare coerente con il titolo.

E la versione di Costello di Days inizia bene per poi addentrarsi nel censurabile.

Muswell Hillbillies è di una piattezza indicibile. Sleepwalker o come si intitola tenta di coprire la mancanza di vera ispirazione e di brani memorabili con un funambolico eclettismo.


Ma no, dai, Muswell Hillbillies tutto, ma piatto no. Certo è strano perché è molto 'americano', molto influenzato dal Delta, però letto da un gruppo che aveva fatto 'Village Preservation'. E Sleepwalker non è un capolavoro, ma ha una sua dignità, suonato bene e le canzoni non scendono mai sotto un certo livello. Non mi sembra neanche così eclettico, forse ti confondi con Preservation (act 1&2). Ceryo molto meglio il successivo Misfits.

Su Sleepwalker mi pare di ricordare persino un tentativo di semi-parodia di hard rock alla Robert Plant, e anche un brano reggae. Misfits non l'ho ascoltato.

Vero che Muswell è un disco molto americano...

Però li si può vedere anche tutti in versione Angus Young sul retrocopertina di 'Schoolboys in disgrace' :P

In Sleepwalker mi pare ci fosse solo quello di hard rock, dovrei cercarmi i titoli ecc. La voce mi sembrava quella del fratello maggiore.

Adoro i Kinks, per me sono alla stregua dei più osannati Beatles. E prendendo spunto dal topic precedente di wago, e visto che siamo in periodo di classifiche, proporrei di postare quelle che per voi sono le 20 canzoni più belle dei Kinks. Ho notato infatti che da voi sono molto considerati, e qualcuno ha già stilato la propria classifica sul topic sui Beatles.
